Wasco is the cheapest place to rent in CA
Why buy when you can rent?
BTW, Ridgecrest made the list. Trona didn't because only towns with more than 15,000 people were included.

Homes for sale - 13882 Fir, Trona, CA 93562
The price on this one is a real bargain and according to Google Maps it's in a nicer part of town!

BoraxBill: Cheap easy land. Sounds like a great deal or it could be a scam. Then again two thousand dollars for a few acres of desert seems pretty reasonable!

CrustyOldFart: The land might be cheap, but I wouldn't call it easy. We're talking about some of the hottest, most arid land on the planet, right? But yeah, two thousand dollars for a few acres around here sounds about right.

Sell Now Before It's Too Late!
The future of Trona looks bleaker than ever. The forecast I've heard from some is that water prices are going to skyrocket which will lead to problems for the plant. Some say the plant will downsize and some say it will close entirely. The ripple effect will hit the school the hardest and a full closure is possible, although another scenario is that the elementary stays open with the high school students being bused to Ridgecrest. Over the next five years Trona may shrink to under 800 residents. All this means that it will become increasingly difficult to sell houses in Trona and that prices will drop. Some people will hold onto their homes and allow them to deteriorate, but it appears very unlikely that the downward spiral will be reversed.... If anything, it will become faster.

cactuspete: I wouldn't panic and put my house up for sale if I still lived in Trona. Then again, it might not be a bad idea to start considering options.
