Good News: Nevada's Strong Anti-SLAPP Law Is Constitutional
Copyright claims are often used as a way to keep people from being able to talk about important issues. There are other legal maneuvers sometimes used to stifle free speech. Fortunately, some states have strong Anti-SLAPP laws!
In case you're new to the subject, SLAPP stands for a Strategic Lawsuit Against Public Participation. In short, SLAPP suits are lawsuits where it is fairly obvious that the intent of the lawsuits is to stifle free speech, rather than for a legitimate purpose under the law. The intention of anti-SLAPP laws are to allow for such lawsuits to be tossed out of court quickly -- and, frequently, to force those who bring those suits to pay legal fees.

San Bernardino families suing technology giants
It makes about as much sense as holding the phone company responsible if two people use their network to plan a murder. Internet service providers and website owners cannot be held responsible for what users do while using their networks. Period.

cactuspete: There may be a few exceptions, but as a general rule I agree. In fact, I'd say that website owners and ISPs cannot be held responsible for what users do about 99 percent of the time. The other one percent are exceptions which are extremely rare and the law should be designed to keep them that way.

Internet Censorship Bill Would Spell Disaster for Speech and Innovation
Communications which somehow "enable" sex traffickers would constitute an infinitesimally small percent of online communications. Probably something like less than one in a million messages have anything to do with anything that could be loosely construed as involving the sex trade. So, why make a bill which impinges on the rights of 999,999 people just to stop one person?
Don’t let its name fool you: the Stop Enabling Sex Traffickers Act wouldn’t help punish sex traffickers. What the bill would do is expose any person, organization, platform, or business that hosts third-party content on the Internet to the risk of overwhelming criminal and civil liability if sex traffickers use their services. For small Internet businesses, that could be fatal: with the possibility of devastating litigation costs hanging over their heads, we think that many entrepreneurs and investors will be deterred from building new businesses online.

SEX TRAFFICKING: Probably the best example of fake news in existence. There is very little reason to believe any of the news stories regarding sex trafficking in the USA. It might happen, but it is incredibly rare. On top of that, to the extent that it does occur, 99 percent of the time it involves adult women. There are just too many safeguards in place for anyone to be able to get away with anything that could reasonably be called sex trafficking. There may be some prostitution going on, but most people agree that prostitution should be legalized anyways. Sex trafficking is just an invention designed to push an agenda forward which limits the freespeech rights of citizens and which justifies laws which we simply do not need!

desertrat: I could not agree more. Sex trafficking is just an excuse to make new laws which we really don't need. Prostitution should be legalized and sex laws in general should be loosened. We have too many people in jail or being sued for petty offenses which should not even be considered crimes. The last thing we need is more censorship and restrictions on our freedom of expression.

Any emotional issue like sex trafficking is going to serve as a good smokescreen to push forward an anti-freedom agenda. The rebranding of prostitution as sex trafficking was a devious little trick to make the so-called problem seem more urgent. Hopefully most people see through the trick and realize that it's just an attempt by those who want to impinge on our freedoms to get away with pushing their laws through with reduced opposition.

99 Problems (Explicit Political Remix) A CAPPELLA VERSION
Apparently YouTube hassled the guy who uploaded the video posted by Ziggy to the short funny songs thread in the recreation group of threads. He wrote a little essay about fair use and apparently YOuTube was persuaded since the video is still up, but in the meantime he uploaded this a cappella version.
On December 19, 2015, more than three years after its upload date, I was informed my 99 Problems (Explicit Political Remix) (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2C22w...) will be taken down from YouTube due to a copyright claim by Universal Music Publishing Group...

According to Code 6 in Center For Social Media’s Code of Best Practices in Fair Use for Online Video (http://www.cmsimpact.org/fair-use/rel...), the use of a single song to ground a collage of clips and images "is covered by fair use to the extent that the reuse of copyrighted works creates new meaning by juxtaposition.

Fair use as a concept is not hard to understand. It provides content sharers with a lot of latitude, but defending fair use is not so easy since those who are against it usually have more money than those in favor of it.
