Outdated regulations should be purged. Search of your phone should not be allowed without specific suspicion.

Actually there are no pictures on cell phones. Only random bits of information that when accessed and processed by a computer device, show a representation of one.

Man says Crime Stoppers tip led to his false arrest in front of children :curse:
There's no excuse for this kind of laziness, incompetence, and deception. We have a right to expect law enforcement to at least be able to do a MINIMALLY COMPETENT job. This guy is only getting $150,000 for what he went through. I'd say he deserves more!

Not only are anonymous tips notoriously unreliable, they are also a popular way of getting revenge against someone. You'd think that law enforcement would have figured that out by now and actually do some fact checking before they actually issue a search warrant or an arrest warrant. I agree that the guy should have received a much larger settlement for what he went through!

Deleting Your Browser History Could Land You In Court :smack:
Anyone with the most basic knowledge of internet safety knows that it's a good idea to delete your browser history, cache, etc. every time you close your browser. It's amazing how inept and clueless lawmakers can be. They may be smart enough to become lawyers, but they are complete idiots when it comes to technology, which begs questions such as: How come so many lawyers are complete idiots? If idiots can become lawyers, then why do they get paid so much? Wouldn't it be better if only intelligent people could become lawyers?

Why Does The US Convict So Many Innocent People?
This clip provides a pretty good rundown on factors that often led to wrongful convictions. Most of the items on the list are the result of sloppy or dishonest police work. Seems like something should be done about the problem...

That's simply and obviously not true. If they were actually random bits of information, then a computing device would not be able to interpret them and produce an image.

No Immunity For Cops Who Sent A SWAT Team To A 68-Year-Old Woman's House For Threats Delivered Over Open WiFi Connection
It's hard to understand how a mistake like this could be made. Of course, I'm assuming that the people making decisions like this are mentally competent individuals. That may be assuming too much.
The court notes that the officers' irresponsibility didn't end there. They also ignored the fact that a man who had made threats against officers in the past (Derrick Murray) was spotted sitting on a porch two houses away from Milan's by officers prior to the raid. (And, indeed, Murray watched the raid unfold from this same porch.)

Courts Aren't Buying Dispensary-Raiding Cops' 'Expectation Of Privacy' Arguments
This is so outrageous that it's almost hilarious! Except that it's also misconduct by law officers and I don't think taxpayers want their funds being used this way! On top of that they destroyed property belonging to a small business owner and public servants should not be destroying private property (and get paid to do it).
:smack:
We recently covered the complete absurdity that is the Santa Ana police union's legal battle to clear cops caught misbehaving (to put it lightly…) during a raid on a pot dispensary. The cops in question tore cameras out of the wall, disabled the surveillance system and then, when they thought they were "safe," made disparaging comments about a disabled woman, ate presumably pot-laced edibles, played a few rounds of darts and generally behaved like any group of miscreants would if they felt they were unobserved.

Wrongful Convictions Cost Taxpayers How Much?!?
Wrongful convictions are inherently wrong and intolerable, but the cost to taxpayers is an issue also. The only "zero tolerance" laws I'll support are those that guarantee that no one is wrongfully convicted. The legal system on paper at least is set up to provide safeguards against wrongful conviction, but judges and juries look the other way and ignore or even applaud prosecutorial misconduct and become emotionally involved in a case when they should remain impartial and objective.

Profit or justice? DOJ to resume civil asset forfeiture
Legalized extortion! This is so blatantly unconstitutional that it's amazing that we're even having this conversation. It should have never been a possibility to begin with!
