shady: He's not a big fan of the name Todd either, apparently.

Obsessing over the guy's name was particularly odd, even for Alex Jones! Just think of all the guys out there named Todd who were made to feel uncomfortable and were probably teased, but more importantly, what does the guy's name even have to do with the issue?

tronagirl: Blowhards like Alex Jones don't really think logically. Instead they use emotional rhetoric. Only people with mental dysfunctions take guys like Alex Jones seriously and those people are the core audience of the Alex Jones show and the main demographic responsible for the phenomenon of moral panics in the first place. Highly logical people who question everything don't fall for emotionally manipulative language and social tactics, but the majority of the population doesn't think so much as they are subject to emotional thought patterns which prevent them from reasoning in an effective manner and that's the problem with humanity in general.

Pokémon GO! and BIBLE PROPHECY? The Externalization of Augmented Reality - End Times Tech #MagicLeap
The religious view with a conspiracy theory twist and resulting implications. This guy doesn't go too far out into the deep end, but he does kind of lean in that direction.

New York Makes Playing Pokemon Go, Other Online Games A Sex Offender Parole Violation
It's like a double helping of moral panics. There's the ongoing moral panic over video games and the negative effect they have on our country's youth combined with the ubiquitous moral panic over sex offenders and their perverted ways! You'd think that being in perpetual moral panic mode would be exhausting, at least eventually, but some people seem to want to organize their lives around it!
:roll2:
Sex offender registries are already seen as highly controversial and potentially ineffective. The majority of people on them aren't the kind of scary "sexual predators" out to grab kids that the media and politicians like to suggest. In some cases they include people who were caught urinating in public or having consensual sex in semi-public areas. In other words, the vast majority of people on the list have zero interest or likelihood of using the game to go hunting for victims.

desertrat: You're right there are a lot of people who actually get off on perpetual hyper-vigilance. It's a way of life. Save the children even if the children don't want to be saved. It's their way of feeling special and important even if they cause more harm than good.

Clown sightings: the day the craze began
Killer klowns on the loose! I wonder how many kids will be dressing up as clowns this year?
“Social media plays a pivotal role in spreading these rumor-panics which travel around the globe in the blink of an eye,” he said. “They are part of a greater moral panic about the fear of strangers and terrorists in an increasingly urban, impersonal, and unpredictable world.”

Moral panics can potentially lead to witch hunts. At this point the PizzaGate moral panic is limited to the conspiracy theory nutjob community, but if it were to spread to the mainstream, then it could turn into a dangerous situation for anyone who is considered to be slightly odd or eccentric. It appears that this PizzaGate thing will die as a result of a total lack of anything that can even remotely be considered to be real, actual evidence. The connections are so weak that it's hard to even characterize it as circumstantial evidence. It's more like a few random facts which have been completely misrepresented to suggest something which they don't actually even suggest, except that those overly eager for this kind of a scandal accept the interpretations with a strange enthusiasm that only a nutjob can exhibit. So, the limited moral panic is likely to subside eventually unless something more substantial is invented, faked, or otherwise fabricated.
