GATEKEEPER POSITIONS: As BoraxBill pointed out in his first post in this thread, those with a Jewish background don't only get appointed to these gatekeeper positons (both in and out of government) disproportionately, but they also receive fasttrack or preferential treatment. Those who occupy gatekeeper positions are most likely to hire those who share their values, attitudes, and beliefs. So not only may there be networking between people in the Jewish community encouraging friends and family to hire other friends and family, but those who don't come from Jewish backgrounds will also be more likely to be hired if they express or show signs in interviews that they share the assumptions of those already in gatekeeper positions. It's sort of a self-replicating system that can only be broken if outside pressure is applied, but there is no mechanism to exert such pressure and so the system will persist probably as long as this country continues to exist... which gets us back to the topic of this thread!
