Unless something is done to reverse this trend we will soon be a failing nation. What that means in an interconnected world is hard to say. Perhaps the wealth accumulated within our borders will simply dissipate and our standard of living will gradually drop. But more likely we will become vulnerable to a sudden attack and an adversary will conquer us or else a desperate nuclear war will follow and civilization as we know it will be put on hold.
