Political Sex Scandals

Postby panamint_patty » Sat Dec 15, 2012 8:26 am

Sex and the fall of men in power
The private lives of political leaders should not be exploited by the media as a way of titilating readers. Sexual affairs are not something worthy of news. In fact, it's an invasion of privacy to publish information about them. Allow leaders to have their affairs. It's their personal business, not something the public needs to know about!

General Petraeus Announces Resignation, Admits to Affair
To suggest that an extramarital affair is a security risk is ridiculous. Our culture is pretty messed up if we can twist things around in this way and pretend that we're making sense. The logic is that the affair could be used in an extortion plot to force the general to reveal military secrets. While that is plausible, in a healthy culture an extramarital affair would not be considered a big enough deal to be used as leverage in an extortion plot. Rather than obsessing over leaders who don't live up to false ideals, we should spend time fixing our culture and reconsidering some of our ideals. I believe that fidelity to one's spouse is a good thing, but it's not something that should be considered a big enough deal to provoke a resignation!

I understand his resignation. He has spent his life as an Officer in the Amy. There is a certain creed to be an officer. I creed he believed in and didn't live up to. Sure he left the military and then the affair started after the fact. But noway is he not Military "High Ranking Officer" minded.
My point is that he has violated the creed. Military officers are the best of the with the highest standard of conduct , thinking and performance. that is what is reviewed when being promoted. Petraeus' actions had no honor, no integrity, no loyalty, no discipline, no self control, and a lack of judgement. And he knows it, Now that it has been brought to light; he must face it. This starts a self examination and he doesn't like what he sees; hence the resignation.
The timing of all of this with the Benghazi thing going on may or may not have everything to do with the truth and then this is all just a cover up.

Is Petraeus scandal about national security? :roll2:
Why in the world does the press make such a big deal about extramarital affairs? It's just not that big of a deal. It's a private matter between people who are married and should not be a matter affecting employment in any way. Cliche phrases like "to fall from grace" as applied to situations like this are really annoying. The guy had an affair! Get over it! BFD!!!! This kind of news story belongs in the gossip column and is not a serious news item (or at least it shouldn't be).

Petraeus Scandal: 'Shirtless FBI Agent' Unmasked
This is a pretty good example of the way law enforcement and the media can sometimes take perfectly innocent details and spin them in a way that makes them seem suggestive or inapprorpiate. You'd think that someone would call them on this kind of thing more often! It's good to see the Young Turks debunking some of the exaggerated claims made regarding this situation.

Paula Broadwell "Devastated" by Affair's Fallout
This should have never become a news story! There should never have been an investigation. The world should have just left the two lovebirds alone!!!

How The Dirty got involved in Weiner scandal
TheDirty.com is a website dedicated to posting scandalous stories. It's kind of a WikiLeaks for trivial and unimportant stories which titillate people with other people's dirty laundry.
