Fighter jet crashes in California desert
Pilot not yet found. Crash near enough to Father Crowley for seven people there to be injured.

F-18 crashes near China Lake, pilot remains missing
Either the jet malfunctioned or the pilot was showing off a little much or maybe a combination of the two. Not likely that the pilot survived, otherwise he'd have been located by now.

Navy Confirms Pilot Died In Death Valley Fighter Jet Crash, Injured Spectators Being Treated For Bur
The navy needs to take responsibility for allowing this situation to occur. The minute the noticed (many years ago) that people were flocking to Father Crowley Overlook to watch the jets fly down the canyon, the navy should have changed its routes. There are plenty of other canyons in the area that would work just fine and failing to do so was irresponsible. They created the problem and pilots often showed off to the crowds while flying down the canyon. This was entirely foreseeable and key people in key positions failed to take proper action in a timely manner. As a result seven people are badly injured and narrowly escaped death.

Well then the people of Trona and Ridgecrest are 100% aware of the possibility of earthquakes because of local faults. Should the government allow them to live there knowing maybe the next quake will be larger and kill people? Should they be allowed to buy cigarettes waiting for the next earthquake?

Same thing

Not even remotely close to being the same thing. In the Star Wars Canyon situation the government CREATED THE PROBLEM and allowed it to persist. Unless you're saying that the earthquakes were the result of government activity (perhaps testing bombs underground), then you are so far off that it's laughably ridiculous. Not sure what cigarettes have to do with anything either unless you're pushing a conspiracy theory about the government working to get people addicted to cigarettes, but that's contradicted by the warning label on cigarette packets.

A better comparison is the fact that people who own pools are required to put six foot fences up around them. The idea being that kids in the neighborhood might be attracted to the pool when it is unattended and could drown while playing in the pool. Of course in that case the kids would be trespassing and that's not even the case with the Father Crowley Overlook. Facilities are in place with restrooms and plenty of parking. It's almost like people are invited to hang out there and meanwhile pilots try to outdo each other in order to put on a show for the crowd. How is that not a government created hazard? Seriously!!!!!

The solution is to have jets fly down a remote canyon away from crowds and to 100% stop using "Star Wars Canyon." Simple solution and it would cut down on congestion on the windy road between Panamint Springs Resort and Father Crowley Overlook.

Same thing in my book book. Cigarettes kill. The government allows it, you don't complain. Cars kill, you don't complain. Sugar kills you don't complain. There is a risk to everything thing any person does. You can not regulate everything you don't like. If that was possible everyone should be able to whine and bitch about anything and get it banned. If you can't sand on that canyon rim and understand something could go wrong then let Darwin have the last laugh.

Sparky: That was not exactly what I'd call a coherent or logical reply to my comment. You overlook several obvious flaws in your own reasoning. Here's one for you to think about. Cigarettes come with warning labels even though the government does not manufacture or sell cigarettes. Since you used this comparison (which is not a very apt comparison, but we'll go with it), you should be able then to see that at the very least the government should have posted warning signs at Father Crowley Overlook. Cars and sugar belong in entirely different categories. Hopping up to the abstract level of general risk is just a scatterbrained non-sequitur. You can do better than throw out a few incoherent, random statements.

The central issue with Father Crowley is that THE GOVERNMENT CREATED THE HAZARD. They are not merely REGULATING something that could be harmful. They CREATED the problem!

Exactly the point. The government should not be creating dangerous situations and then inviting people to hang out in close proximity to those dangerous situations. At this point in history it's time to change certain policies. The government has way more land than it needs in the form of military bases. They can very easily do all their practice flights over their own lands. They don't need to be flying over any areas outside their own bases. End of story.
