This will work great as long as a shooter aims for the backpack! :smack:
But seriously, even if a bullet hits the backpack the kid will get knocked over and then will be killed on the next shot. And unless the kids are all wearing bullet proof helmets their most sensitive body part is still left unprotected. This kind of bandaid approach would be comical if it weren't for the morbid issue involved.

We've come a long way since "duck and cover".

Superintendent Indicted in Ga. Cheating Scandal
An unplanned conspiracy... sounds like they're stretching the definition of "conspiracy" here. Not saying that this lady is blameless, but it seems that law enforcement often takes liberties to over-charge people. It's almost like it's a game or something! It's supposed to be a matter of justice, not some type of creative interpretation of the law contest!!!

Stretching a law (rather than interpreting it narrowly) seems to be the mandate of law enforcement. Why else does the USA incarcerate more people than any other country on the planet? Not only are their more people in prison in this country than in any other country, but a higher percentage of the population is in prison in this country than is the case for any other country. It's all about making money and there's no shortage of excuses for putting people in the slammer. Cha-ching!!!

Science Teacher in Trouble For Saying 'Vagina' in Class
At one point the lady in this video says this was a "grade school" situation, but in the description for the video it says this involved 10th grade students. It seems to me that there's a big difference between those two groups of students.

Trona schools to see reduced royalty payments
Bad news for the local school district. The details haven't been spelled out yet and it hasn't actually gone into effect and so it remains to be seen how much impact this announcement will have.
The Trona Joint Unified will likely see reduced potash royalty payments as a result of sequestration. The district has received a little more than $2.47 million in royalties through January of this fiscal year. TJUSD uses royalty funds for one-time expenditures.

Atlanta School System Caught in Epic Cheating Scandal
Sounds like there's more to this than is being revealed. It almost sounds like someone is trying to create a scandal in order to discredit public education. Maybe someone is pushing for private schools or charter schools. And ultimately who gives a rat's ass about standardized test scores? Fix the problem. Don't persecute the victims!

More Kids Than Ever Diagnosed with ADHD
One out of five boys get diagnosed with ADHD. It sounds like a lot of lazy parents out there would rather drug up their kids than be parents!!! No wonder we have so many disfunctional teenagers and young adults in society! Guess who gets to pay the bill for cleaning up that mess? The rest of us!!!

Beatty teachers to propose 4-day school week
The article says that money is saved and that there is no negative impact on academic achievement, but school days are a bit longer. It's just that there's fewer of them during the academic year.
Another concern was, with the lengthened school day, which would be from 7:40 a.m. to 3:52 p.m. if the school adopts the schedule currently in use in Round Mountain, that the students from Amargosa Valley would be getting home significantly later.

Seems like when you read the fine print what this means is Obama is cutting the money they send to schools and so forth and keeping it for themselves under the guise of increasing administration costs. They used to keep half of it but now that's not enough. Seems we did better in the good old days when this town flourished under the generosity of the plant before everything went global and the Feds wanted their cut. Maybe they can take up the slack by closing the pool or sports programs. No wonder recreational drug usage is out of control. Maybe they can save some money by closing down the bike path. Oh wait. Didn't they already do that?

I totally agree that Obama is going too far in this case. Keeping the money that should go to the school district is basically stealing from the kids. It's a cheap way to increase federal revenue and completely unfair. I'm not sure that I have anything positive to say about the generosity of the plant. Keep in mind that the Kerr-McGee recreational center should have been built her in the valley, not in Ridgecrest. Of course, that move was made while the plant was owned by a different company, but I don't see the new owners as being terribly generous towards the town in any way at all!
