Thousands turn out for Trona Gem-O-Rama
3500 participants? That's like more than double the population of Trona. Hopefully local businesses profited from this event!
More than 3,500 visitors participated in three field trips to Searles Lake to collect saline minerals that adorn the salt bed, as visitors from around the country in the gem and mineral show over the weekend.

I couldn't get your link to work either. Try this one. It said they first thought the plane was from the China Lake base.

After 14 years, Nick Young selling John’s Pizza
My hunch is that most people who are likely to view this forum have eaten at John's Pizza at least once! Is it the greatest pizza in the world? No. But it was pretty good and a fun place to take the kids!
After more than 14 years of ownership, one of Ridgecrest’s historical icons is being put back on the market. John’s Pizza, which celebrated its 40th anniversary this year, is up for sale, according to owner Nick Young. “It’s been great owning John’s Pizza,” Young said Wednesday.

Military plane crashes at Owens Dry Lake
The link wasn't working when I tried to read the full article. I tried putting an "e" into "crashs" but that didn't work either!
:blah:
Just before 4pm Thursday afternoon, several people saw a jet plane crash into the Owens Dry Lake. The pilot ejected and walked away. The Inyo Sheriff’s Department responded immediately to the report and sent units to the reported site. Lone Pine Fire and Ambulance rushed to the scene too.

Appears to be working now! At least I got to it. I suppose that doesn't necessarily mean that the link will continue to work!

Internationally acclaimed (they’re not kidding!) Fruitcake Festival
This even sounds a little fruity if you ask me! :dizzy:
To attend the Festival, you must bring a fruitcake or eggnog. Homemade fruitcake or eggnog is preferred. The eggnog can be transported to the festival in a milk jug. Please label it as “leaded” or “unleaded”. We have refrigeration on site. The eggnog is always served in elegant punch cups at the bar. It is worth the trip to Independence just for that fact alone.

Trona street to be dedicated February 5
I wonder how long it will take for Google Maps to make this update!
Market Street in Trona will be renamed Jones Street when it is dedicated Feb. 5 at 1 p.m.
The street is being named in honor of the late longtime resident and San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Sgt. Norris Eugene Jones.
