CactusHugger: Most bullying is just verbal harassment and so I'm not one who gets carried away over the issue, but this seems a little odd. If it turns out that no criminal behavior was committed, then maybe wiretapping issues come to play. If criminal courts don't deal with the problem, then there's always civil court. There are way too many lawsuits, but some of them are necessary.
Science Teacher Suspended for... Teaching Science Explosions are part of science, especially if we're talking chemistry. It seems ridiculously unreasonable to punish a teacher for conferring with kids regarding science projects that involve something that explodes. It might be the politically correct thing to do to stir the kids away from such projects, but political correctness kills free thought and free thought is something that should be cherished. BTW, political correctness comes in many flavors, but in general it's any agenda driven cause which is deemed by its advocates as more important than the truth. In other words, political correctness is dogmatic in nature. Anything that doesn't conform with the beliefs of a group is considered unacceptable and must be edited, avoided, or deleted. I believe in empirical truth and refuse to bow to some weak-minded or politically correct way of thinking.
Homeland Security Adviser Warns Parents That Their Mouthy Kids May Grow Up To Be Terrorists According to Lisa Monaco (White House Homeland Security and Counterterrorism Advisor):
“Parents might see sudden personality changes in their children at home—becoming confrontational. Religious leaders might notice unexpected clashes over ideological differences. Teachers might hear a student expressing an interest in traveling to a conflict zone overseas. Or friends might notice a new interest in watching or sharing violent material.”
I think Lisa Monaco is correct and that's why I'm in favor of sending all teenagers ages fifteen to nineteen off to work camps for five years. There they can learn the value of discipline and hard work and not be permitted to listen to pop culture noise pollution or play pointless video games. The crime rate will go way down, teens will actually use five years of their life to learn skills and gain knowledge instead of wasting time hanging out with their dopey friends. Above all the segment of the business world that caters to the whims of teens will need to refocus its resources on actually contributing to society. BTW, anyone who disagrees with me is a terrorist!
Actually that's not that bad of an idea. However I'd only send those kids away who get in trouble or who are unable to maintain good grades. Many teenagers waste opportunities while in school and those would benefit from being sent to such a camp. Students who do well should not be subjected to such treatment.
Boy Meets Miss America, Boy Gets Suspended, Now She's On His Side No harm no foul! This is one of those situations where the smart thing is to just let it slide.
VH1 Revenge of the Nerds This is pretty funny! Sometimes things do work out this way, but most often not so much. True nerds usually aren't bullied since they know how to stay out of trouble. They either stay under the radar or are able to come up with a witty remark and use humor to sidestep a tricky situation. Kids who are bullied are most often bullies themselves who are belligerent and rude and too stupid to figure out why other people return the same type of behavior toward them. It's called Karma and contradicts the assertions made in this video.
CactusHugger: What you say about nerds and bullies is quite true, but the popular media does not present things in that manner. The defnition of bully has been expanded so that it applies to situations which are disputes between two unreasonable people. However, usually one gets transformed into the aggressor and the other into the victim even though most often both contributed equally to the problem. Like you say, true nerds usually don't get caught up in this kind of drama. It's just not in their nature.
