The "PIT"
All sorts of Trona locals in this news video profile of The Pit. This is from 2009 and it's odd how many of the people speaking on behalf of Trona in this video no longer live here, although some are still around.

The WikiPedia entry for Trona High School talks almost exclusively about "The Pit" and football. It also talks about something called the Borax Bowl. Never heard that one before! :roll2:
The field is watered on game day and leveled, and an annual game against Boron High School is called the Borax Bowl.

BTW, it lists Carol Lewis-May as the HS principal. I thought it was someone else now. Maybe the page needs to be updated?

The Trona HS Football Team won their game last night against Alpaugh by a score of 54-6. They lost their first football game to Public Safety Academy by a score of 22-16. The Daily Insufficient has posted a couple articles about the football team and there's more info about the team posted at the maxpreps.com website.

I Wanna Drive A Zamboni
The plan was to play this song during halftime at the football game this evening while the water truck was driving around spraying water on the field.

Sadly, Trona has lost its last two games. On Sept. 20 they lost to Cate 47-20. On Sept. 26 they lost to Kings Christian by a score of 52-0. Cate is located in Carpinteria, btw, and was founded in 1910 by some guy named Curtis Cate and there's even a website at cate.org, fyi.

Football vs. Trona
This article appeared at the cate.org website. Here's the beginning of the article:
On Saturday, September 20, the Cate football team packed up it's gear and took a long trip over to Trona to take on the Tornadoes in what is lovingly know as "The Pit". It was unfamiliar conditions for the Rams, as the all dirt field and hot evening temperatures needed some getting used to. Despite all of the difficulties, Cate topped Trona by a 47-20 clip.

Sorry to say that the Mighty Tornadoes lost another game. This time it was against Mojave and the score was 54-16. Next week they face Lone Pine. That should be a good game!

Football Injuries Force Michigan High School to End Season Early
Common sense would tell anyone with the slightest bit of intelligence that allowing kids to play football is a form of child abuse. Tradition blinds the stupid and the possibility of getting rich blinds the greedy, but nonetheless there is no excuse!

CactusPete: What you say is undoubtedly true if we apply logic, but we live in an emotion-based society and so logic has nothing to do with it. Big problems get ignored and little problems become exaggerated all depending on how people FEEL about whatever the issue might happen to be. So, don't waste your time applying logic to a situation in a world full of people ruled by their emotions!
