A 17-year-old high school football player died on Monday morning in Washington state from injuries suffered during a football game, making him the fourth high school football player in the U.S. to die in the last month due to injuries sustained on a football field. Kenney Bui was a senior defensive back and wide receiver for Evergreen High School in Seattle. Bui was a student at the Technology and Communications High School, one of three small schools located on the Evergreen campus.

Most parents know that it's not a good idea to allow their sons to play high school football, but they give into the social pressure to allow their kid to play. Not only are they afraid that their sons might resent them if they forbid participation, but they also like the prestige of having a son on the football team. If parents were willing to actually be parents, there would be no high school footabll.

Football helmets with sensors have got to be expensive and public awareness of the product will be increased and more high tech helmets will be sold. They almost certainly are ridiculously expensive. One has to wonder whether there is a corporate connection between the news outlet and the company selling the helmets.

If as ergot points out, the death rate was at fifteen high school football players per year for a period of ten years and now in this current year only seven players have died, then it seems like a huge improvement has been made. Yet the media is hyping the seven deaths which have occurred this year as if it's a major crisis. Sounds like someone has something to sell and wants a law passed to force schools to purchase their equipment. Not to be skeptical or cynacal, but I smell some serioius BS here!

Trona Wins Playoff Game
According to MaxPreps (another one of those websites with more popup ads than a porn site) Trona beat the Cornerstone Christian Crusaders with a score of 60-8 last night to advance to the next round of playoffs. As a result they will play Desert Christian Academy next Friday at Bermuda Dunes. Hopefully Bermuda Dunes is nothing like the Bermuda Triangle.
