What Students Say To Teachers vs What They Want To Say
Most students behave appropriately, but their thoughts might not be quite so pure!

Teacher Rips Off Student's Shirt In Classroom
This lady teacher probably won't lose her job, but if she were a man the story would be different. Best quote:
Boo hoo hoo. Another rotten punk kid who pushed a teacher over the edge. Got what she deserved. Plus it is Oregon, where men are emasculated by ball crushing laws designed by Feminazis. Good thing it was a female teacher because a male teacher would already be on death row.

Students Targeted With Propagandist’s Absurd Film
I'm just not feeling Cenk's outrage on this one. Most teachers would encourage students to debate claims made in a presentation like this and so the presentation is likely to have the opposite effect than that which was intended by the filmmaker. After all when students realize just how one-sided the presentation is, they will conclude that the filmmaker was trying to manipulate them and they will recognize the propaganda piece for what it is. Some may agree with the points made in the film, but they will still realize that the person who produced the film lacked intellectual integrity.

Inconvenient Truth: America’s Public Schools Are Among Highest Achieving In The World
The claims made in this article should be intuitively obvious to anyone who isn't a total moron, but it would seem that a large portion of the population is convinced that day is night thanks to the constant barrage of media propaganda which lives and breaths the idea that telling a lie often enough will convince people that what is false is actually true.
Any educator is well aware that there are issues out of their control in attempting to teach every student that enters their classroom, and now another damning study reveals that it is not poorly-qualified teachers, union representation, or tenure hampering achievement; it is poverty borne of America’s existential problem of income inequality. In fact, according to yet another study, America’s wealthiest traditional public schools that are unionized with tenured teachers are among the world’s highest achieving schools. If, as privatization “reformers” in Republican, corporate, and Obama Education Department claim that America’s public schools are dire failures, then America’s wealthy public schools with unionized teachers, and tenure, would be failing and not at the “top of the international charts.”

cactuspete: This relates to the topic of white privilege and clearly demonstrates that there is no such thing as white privilege. The children of affluent people go to school motivated to learn. There's no need to waste time entertaining them, these kids (who happen to be mostly white) are polite and cooperative and ready to work. Kids from lower socio-economic groups are often almost belligerently uncooperative. Teachers are very well trained here in the USA, but as the saying goes, you can lead a horse to water, but you can't force it to drink.

desertrat: As a retired teacher I can honestly say that I never once meet a teacher who was not highly competent and who didn't work hard to give students the best education possible. The media has tried to spread the myth of the lazy and ineffective teacher and that's all it is! It's just a myth! The truth is that not all kids are created equal. Some are much brighter than others. Some work much harder than others. While it's possible to teach all kids, the INCONVENIENT TRUTH is that not all kids learn at the same rate. What smart and highly motivated kids can learn by sixth grade often surpasses what less intelligent and unmotivated kids can learn in a lifetime. That's just the reality teachers deal with, plain and simple.

I saw an article today about the demolition of the old Trona elementary school in the Daily Insufficient. There was something about an old clock being donated to the local historical society. It'll be nice when the old buildings are finally cleared away!
