If the civil war was fought over slavery; who started it?

If that “started it” means who fired the first shot or cannon fire, the winners say the losers did. The South fired on the North.

If you already got what you want why would anyone start a war over it? Doesn't make any sense. Also if the civil war was about slavery why does our government allow it to continue the way it did in movies like Blood Diamond? Supposedly a true story.

I read that it was succession that was the true reason the civil war took place but that slavery was the biggest issue being the reason the southern states wanted the succession in the first place.

Seems like if they had not forced the issue that slavery would have died out naturally because modern farming practices were able to produce cotton cheaper than maintaining slaves. Slavery was already dying out before the cotton gin was invented but it's revival would have been short lived due to the invention of the machines responsible for modern agriculture that came after the invention of the cotton gin. It also seems like it would have happened a lot faster had we not delayed and taken 5 years out of the equation to invent weapons to kill one another instead and then had to spend years putting it all back together again after the war.

How likely is it that there will be a civil war between today's blue and red states? Seems like the reason this time is because of open boarders and the wish to tear the country apart which is sort of the opposite reason for the civil war and the North wanting to keep the country together.

It all seems like a senseless waste that could have all been avoided and that we haven't learned from our mistakes.

In a way the bigger picture of Trump is reminiscent of the south rising again, only not like anyone back then imagined it and that the real succession is coming from the superpowers, Especially the United States trying to get away from the one world government, that our previous leaders have shoved down our throats.

It seems like if the countries in turmoil were forced to make things better over there instead of being encourage to escape that there would be no need for them to migrate; and that the process is not only delaying those countries from pulling themselves up by their own bootstraps; but simultaneously bringing our country down to their level at the same time.

How do you see it?

I agree with you 100% on slavery would have gone away over a short period of time. Some many lives would have been saved. The population was also going and that was growing faster in anti slavery states. That alone would in time changed popular vote to end slavery. Anti slavery was als starting to creep in in Europe. The ravages of war did not help the 'freed slaves either, the bitterness left in the south also slowed the Nation down for a while. Would have been interesting

The Civil War caused a lot of resentment in the South and slowed the rate at which Blacks were accepted as citizens with equal rights. Having allowed slavery to die a natural death probably would have resulted in greatly reduced racial tension. There are many different trajectories which could have taken place if not for the Civil War and all of them would have been better than the way things turned out. Sometimes being too eager to solve a perceived injustice makes everything worse. Or put another way, the road to hell is paved with good intentions!

I just looked up the definition of mob on the CNN dictionary of words and they are correct:

MOB: A large crowd of Trump supporters, especially one that is disorderly and intent on causing trouble or violence. Liberals are excluded from mob like behavior because they are always right no matter how wrong they appear to be.

They also suggested mop instead... I digress!
