HOT DAY AT THS
According to the marquee in front of the high school, the temperature hit 123F degrees today. That's probably not exactly accurate and the forecast only called for a high of 112F degrees. Either way, it was pretty hot for the first day of school!

My friends and I always laugh when we drive by the high school marquee. It's always 10 to 20 degrees above the actual temperature. One of my friends has the theory that the temperature sensor is located somewhere where heat builds up like inside a window or an unventilated box or something like that. It should be possible to get a more accurate reading, but it's always fun to see how hot it wasn't just the same! haha

Teacher Shortage
Apparently there's a bit of a teacher shortage and Kern County is having a hard time filling its classrooms with qualified professionals.

Should children learn coding at school?
It's too bad that schools aren't ready to enter the 21st century. There's a lot of lip-service and a lot is done using computers, but there are no real technology classes available for most kids that teach kids to be more than mere consumers of technology (as opposed to actual creators).

School ratings shake-up
This report provides interesting information about how schools are rated and how the system is changing. Lots of fun acronyms: API, AYP, LCAP.

Yoga pants and other tight articles of clothing banned in schools
Too cool for school... apparently... at least in some states.

Re: School Dress Codes

panamint_patty: I can see how those tight pants could be a real distraction. How are the boys supposed to concentrate on school work when the girls are wearing those things! LOL Yeah, I know that people should be able to wear what makes them comfortable, but those tight fitting pants don't leave a lot to the imagination. Sometimes dress codes are needed to help keep the kids doing school work while at school and to help them concentrate on what they need to be doing.
