Principal Fired After Appearing Trey Songz Music Video The best point made: If Schwarzenegger (who played mass murderers in several movies) can be governor, then why can't a lady who appeared briefly in a music video and did nothing violent or obscene be principal. Inconsistency much?
High School Principal Not a Principal Anymore After Appearing in a Trey Songz Video The Young Turks kind of left out this part of the article:
According to Newsday, Esther Adler-O’Keefe is being reassigned to “oversee a variety of academic support services throughout the district”—the direct result of her brief cameo in the music video.
What Exactly Do Rapists Look Like? The previous Young Turks video and this video were posted only a few hours apart and yet they seem ridiculously incongruent. On the one hand, they give a pass to a female principal for appearing in a video that can reasonably be seen as condoning the practice of men taking sexual advantage of women who are drunk, and on the other hand, they vociferously criticize a young male who is a college student for expressing his opinion that he should not be required to attend a class on the topic of consent. A principal is in a position where she might have to discipline students for exactly the type of behavior that is depicted in the video and so it is reasonable that people might be concerned that she appeared in the video. While I would not remove her from her position as a result of her appearance in the video, I can at least see why people might be concerned. The young college student merely voiced an opinion that classes on consent have a number of flaws and he considers the requirement that he as a student at a college be required to attend them to be unreasonable. He undoubtedly has a number of very good reasons for why he feels as he does. Yet he is villainized while the female principal is given a complete pass by the TYT gang. Although I'm a female, I still can't help but be struck by the double standard here. Apparently males who do small things that the TYT crew disagrees with get lambasted, where as women who do more serious things get a pass.
Ultimately, rapists probably do look more like the young man in the Trey Songz video shown pouring an alcoholic beverage down a woman's throat at a party, than the young man shown holding a sign with a simple statement on it that appears in this video.
Sources say district doing nothing about Serra High School principal's bad behavior Lots of news related to schools in the headlines less than two months into the new school year. It sounds like there is plenty of evidence of wrongdoing on the part of this principal and yet he's still working his job. You'd think the district would at least put him in another position where he doesn't have contact with students until the issue is resolved, especially since the teaching staff delivered a vote of no confidence regarding the guy.
Popular Teacher About To Be Fired Over What His Lawyer Calls Bogus Charges Looks like the Los Angeles Unified School District is in big trouble on this one. They should probably have thought through this one a bit more carefully since it's likely to cost them a BILLION DOLLARS.
Attorney for famed teacher Rafe Esquith files class action suit against L.A. Unified You'd think that such a large school district would display better judgement, but considering some of the stupid decisions made in the past by the LAUSD this isn't really all that surprising!
An attorney for celebrated Los Angeles Unified teacher Rafe Esquith on Thursday accused the district of employing an “investigative hit squad” to drum up false charges against older, well-paid teachers in an effort to avoid paying their retirement benefits.
shadylady and wildrose: Sometimes it seems that there is no end to controversy when it comes to public education. Either teachers and administrators are too strict or they are out-of-control. There seems to be no middle ground sometimes, but I guess that's in line with what Abe Lincoln said: You can't please all of the people all of the time. So, there are always going to be malcontents out to criticize anything and everything.
White House to host teen whose project was mistaken for bomb Well it looks like the Texas teen who got arrested for taking a homemade clock to school is actually going to the White House. He also won some kind of an award from a Muslim civil rights group.
Boy arrested for homemade clock meets President Obama The story is a little bizarre when you really think about it. One over-reaction led to another over-reaction. Some kid puts together a less than mediocre pseudo-science project and winds up as a celebrity. Just goes to show you that the world doesn't always make a lot of sense.
SD Unified to buy lockdown kits to avoid 'unsanitary nightmare' Great way to take advantage of a perceived need if your looking at it from a business perspective, but it's actually just a solution to a non-problem in reality. No doubt the marketing campaign will be focused on hyping the non-problem to those feeble-minded enough to demand that their local school board take action to deal with this non-problem.
Why these kids read to dogs will make you smile This is a great way to get kids to read. They may not like reading on their own, but when they get to read to a dog they enjoy reading more.
