wildrose: General education and a strong conceptual foundation always wins out in the long run over specific skill training. Of course, that depends on your IQ. If you are highly intelligent go to college. If you are a trainable idiot, then tech school is all you need since you're not likely to benefit from higher learning. I don't say that to be mean or to put anyone down, but everyone needs to realistically appraise themselves and plan accordingly. My career as an engineer required an advanced degree and I don't regret any aspect of my career choice now that I'm retired. Ultimately the worst thing you can do is to sell yourself short, but unrealistic aspirations can doom one to frustration and failure.
