TWISTER: Good call. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is pretty common with ex-military. Trump's idea about hardening school security with guns in the hands of teachers skilled at handling firearms is a lame idea. Teachers are about as likely as anyone else to go postal and someone with PTSD is much more likely to be triggered by just about anything. Interesting idea, but not even close to a useful idea or solution to anything.

Outside locks? What were they thinking?

Students nationwide plan walkout protests over gun laws
This seems like a counterproductive thing to do. It would make more sense to organize and petition lawmakers.

CactusHugger: Most schools are older than Columbine. That was 1999 and it was the first school shooting that made big headlines. Since then schools have slowly started setting up security systems. Rekeying an entire school is not cheap. So, it's not surprising that many schools still have old lock from the outside type of doors.

Why are so many young men commiting mass murder?
This guy makes some good points, but he also plugs his book. That kind of makes him look like an opportunist and not someone with helpful advice.

ergot: I have a lot of respect for Jordan Peterson and so I'll give him a pass this time, but there is no doubt that everytime there's a school shooting that there is no shortage on sleazy entrepreneurial types who are out to make some money off the tragedy. Most offer that false sense of security that's been mentioned a few times in this thread and so people need to be a little skeptical about the claims that people make especially following a tragedy when everyone is overly eager to DO SOMETHING.

shadylady: Sleazy salespeople and politicians pushing an anti-gun agenda seem to come out of the woodwork following a school shooting and the general public is so desperate for a solution that they seem to lose their ability to think clearly. Just keep in mind that complex problems require complex responses. Simple solutions don't work and are likely to make things much worse!

Teacher locks himself in classroom with gun: Authorities
And this is why it's a really bad idea for teachers to have guns...

Thousands of California classrooms don't lock from inside
The state should make emergency funds available to fix this problem sooner rather than later because later might mean more dead kids!

EMERGENCY FUNDS: Of all things that could be done to make kids safer, replacing doors that only lock from the outside seems like a complete no-brainer. The state should act on this one immediately. This isn't something that should be put off even for a day. Installation of new doors should start immediately. Like twister said, any delay could mean more dead kids that could have been saved if do-nothing bureaucrats weren't complaining about gun control instead of doing something that could make a difference!
