There was some sort of stabbing here in Trona a week or so ago, but I have no names or much by way of specifics. I know someone wound up in the hospital and that people say that the sheriff did nothing about it. Not even an arrest. Does anyone know anything?

twister: I won't reveal any names, but what I heard is that three juveniles attacked an adult. They had knives and other weapons. They probably would have killed him if another adult had not intervened. The adult who was attacked wound up in the hospital, but recovered. The juveniles were not arrested for some reason. It doesn't make any sense and so there must be more to the story.

Father of child mauled by dog speaks out from jail
These parents should be convicted of manslaughter. At least five years each. There is no excuse for this level of irresponsibility. Dog owners need to realize that they are responsible for anything their dogs do and they should be held fully accountable.

tronagirl: Definitely dog owners should be held accountable for anything their dogs do. Otherwise, who could possibly be held accountable? If not for the presence of the dog the death would not have happened. Dogs, especially certain breeds, commonly cause injury. Owners make a choice and they should live with that choice and be held accountable for that choice.

Runaway dog can bring criminal consequences
CrustyOldFart will be pleased with this news clip. Dog owners can be charged with a misdemeanor and fined if their dog runs away. Simply leaving the gate unlatched on a windy day could make them criminals. I applaud this since it does force dog owners to be responsible. So many dog owners are hopelessly irresponsible and so this is a trend I hope to see expand and accelerate!

RPD arrests Trona resident for DUI
She was so drunk she drove up on the sidewalk. Making things worse someone had to provide her with the booze since she's under 21-years-old.
The driver, identified as 18-year-old Miranda Horta from Trona was removed from the vehicle and detained. Horta was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated, Reckless Driving and Driving on the Wrong Side of the Roadway. Horta’s vehicle sustained damage to three of the four rims and was not drivable after it was stopped.

Not much detail, but it does give some idea of local activity.

Two people killed in Cal City double homocide
Well, someone misspelled HOMICIDE, but California City ain't too far away from Trona and so the idea of a drive by shooting is something that we can't assume will never happen here.

High Speed Police Chase Ends in Trona

Postby surfsteve » Mon Sep 10, 2018 9:20 am

Ridgecrest Police Department
16 hrs ·

Officer Farias attempted to make a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by William Patrick Dean Howard. Howard is currently wanted on multiple felony cases and absconding from parole. Howard refused to stop his vehicle and 2 Ridgecrest Police cars pursued Howard until Trona where a San Bernardino Deputy joined the pursuit, assuming the lead vehicle.

The pursuit ended shortly thereafter when a private citizen intervened and collided his vehicle with Howard's. Howard ran from the vehicle but was quickly caught by officers after a short foot pursuit. 2 passengers were detained and later released from the scene.

Quick note: Vehicle pursuits are dangerous and there are a lot of factors involved. We appreciate all the help we receive from the community but please do not intervene in a pursuit.
