TJUSD School Board Meeting - November 08, 2012
The board meeting got off to a late start this evening. Although the open session was scheduled to begin at 6 p.m., the meeting didn't begin until after 7:30 p.m. due to a volleyball playoff game which was won by Trona.
1. Board Member Comments: Bob Wilhelm noted $1M has been received for the first three months of royalty payments so far this fiscal year. This is more than the projected royalty revenue for the full year.
2. TCEA Contract Negotiations - The public was informed of the issues that will be discussed during contract negotiations between the district and the classified union. These issues include wages, monthly dues deductions, job descriptions, health and welfare benefits, work hours, and the evaluation process.
3. Superintendent's Report - David Olney stated that district enrollment increased by one student since last month. Olney also presented certificates of appreciation to the two out-going board members (Bob Wilhelm and Gary Hess).
4. Royalties Bill - Hess asked about the royalties bill which is in congress. Olney stated that although nothing is for certain, it appears that at this time it will not pass.
5. Bus Cameras - Deanna Garrison asked about bus cameras. Olney reported that they have been ordered and that they will be installed as soon as they are received.
6. WASC Report - Mary Wilhelm presented information on progress made regarding WASC (accreditation) goals. She reviewed the goals which had to do with academic achievement, student motivation, and parent involvement and presented data showing progress being made in each area. The next WASC visitation is scheduled for 2015, but a lot must be done in preparation for this visit.
7. FUND 13 - Olney explained revisions being made to simplify the food service financial accounting system. These revisions were suggested by the county and are intended to make the financial accounting process as it pertains to the cafeteria more efficient.
8. Uniform Complaint Procedures - As required as a result of the passage of AB 9 (Seth's Law) board policy regarding the uniform complaint procedure had to be updated to include "harassment, intimidation, and bullying" along with existing language.
