The website is ghetto and any school with a Facebook page is pathetically behind the times. Their twitter feed is crap. :roll2:
It's just plain embarrassing!

Not to be harsh, but even making a special effort to be charitable, this is pretty bad. I wonder if they have a MySpace page!

Compared to websites for other high schools I look at, the website for Trona High School scores a low F. Not just an F, but a low F. No other high school that I could find had such a sadly inadequate website. On the positive side, it's definitely the case that there is plenty of room for improvement! In the meantime, the website is a bit of an embarrassment for all concerned. Hopefully the actual day-to-day experience of students at the high school is of a much higher quality.

pcslim: I can confirm that. I just did a little comparison shopping and I could not find another high school with such an incredibly weak web page. Hopefully that does not reflect the overall quality of the institution, but one way or the other it doesn't look good.

There's more to a high school than a web page, Facebook feed and a few Twitter posts. However, with a web page like the one I saw, it would be better to not have one. As for Facebook and Twitter, why bother? I sure hope the actual quality of the school exceeds what is apparent from their web presentation.

I try to stay away from Fakebook. That being said, I did find useful info on the Trona High School website. It might not be the best design, but I found the cafeteria menu and some other info that was useful. It could be improved, but no worries as far as I'm concerned.

While I agree with other statements regarding the school website made in previous posts to this thread, there are more important things to worry about. In fact, more important than anything else is that the high school remain properly accredited.
blackturtle.us wrote:8) WASC (high school accreditation) - The HS principal explained the current status of the next round of accreditation. The WASC coordinator was also on hand to answer questions. Generally, at this point the high school is in good shape. Both the HS principal and the WASC coordinator plan on participating as members of WASC accreditation teams visiting nearby high schools. In fact, one will visit Bakersfield HS and the other will go to Barstow.

As far as accreditation goes, it appears that the school is in good shape.

wildrose: Yes, accreditation is important and so is safety and teacher quality and adequate facilities and learning materials. A website is pretty low on my list of priorities, but a good one does facilitate communication with the community. Twitter and Fakebook might be useful for that sort of thing too, although people shouldn't be required to join either of those two websites in order to receive info. It would probably be better to just have a list of parent emails and do mass emails every few weeks. If companies with thousands of customers can do it, then a school with a couple hundred students ought to be able to handle something as simple as that.

pdm: I just checked out the website and I was hoping to be able to disagree with you, but you're absolutely right. The website is CRAP! The funny thing is I recall checking out the website a couple years ago and was able to find what I was looking for. What the hell happened?
