wildrose: What I heard is that they cancelled school on Sunday while the internet was out because they thought it was still going to be out on Monday. But what happened was the internet came back on a couple hours after they announced that school was going to be closed. Makes you wonder how anyone survived before the internet. Somehow we were still able to have school back then, right?

North High child porn investigation
This should not be a criminal investigation. The age of consent should be lowered to fifteen and moral panics about explicit video involving children should be discouraged. If an adult coerces a child into making a sexually explicit video that's one thing, but if the children are doing it on their own, then what's the big deal? It's a waste of law enforcement time to be involved in something as trivial as this! As for supervision at the high school, that's another question, but not being able to see the video makes it difficult to determine the circumstances under which the video was taken and whether or not someone failed to provide proper supervision.

State board looks to expand sex-ed for kindergarten students
This sounds like a little much. Maybe concentrate on the fundamentals and allow parents to deal with sex-related issues and we definitely don't need to be pushing transgender BS on little kids. That's just cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs!

Fifth-grade girl dies after being injured in fight
Things can happen quickly when kids get out of control. So far the student who caused the fatality has just been suspended with no criminal charges being filed. It's impossible to guess whether or not an adult was supervising and that could be a big issue one way or the other. It seems unlikely that the parents won't file a lawsuit and who knows how that will affect school policies.

Did School Shooter Training Session Go Too Far?
There's no excuse for such stupid training tactics. I've heard that local schools have had some active shooter training, but hopefully it wasn't this ALICE training nonsense. It's really exasperating to hear about companies like this which put together ill-considered programs just to make a buck!

wildrose: I'll try to ask around to see which schools in the area have done this type of training. It would seem to me that a half hour video would be more than sufficient to help people understand the options they have when it comes to dealing with an armed intruder whether at a school or any other place for that matter.

Stupid people fall for stupid scams. This ALICE training crap sounds like the typical kind of thing that school administrators lap up like there's no tomorrow. In reality it's a pool of vomit on the floor, but tell an administrator it's pudding and he's down on his knees and he just can't get enough!

If it weren't so serious that video would have been funny. Who am I kidding? I still can't stop laughing. Those guys are just begging to be sued! Also seems inevitable it would lead to one of those guys going postal one day and carrying out their fake assault for real with live ammo.

Indiana lawmakers amending bill on school shooter drills
The idea of shooting projectiles of any kind in one of these drills is just plain stupid. The people who plan these drills are delusional. They've partaken of way too much kool-aid and they believe their own bullshit.
A state Senate panel has amended a school safety bill after teachers were shot with plastic pellets during active-shooter training at an elementary school in northern Indiana. The amendment would bar the firing of projectiles at teachers, school employees or students during any drill or training.

They need an amendment for that? That's just plain stupid! The fact that someone allowed it in the first place is just insane. How could assaulting teachers with projectiles in any way shape or form be legal in the first place? Unless maybe they signed a consent form or something... Who in their right mind would knowingly sign anything specifically permitting something like that? Someone F'd up big time!
