wildrose: There's a lot of fake science going on at this time. Sometimes the studies themselves are seriously flawed and sometimes it's just the claims people make about the studies that are flawed. A bigger problem is that there are lots of logic impaired people floating around these days. There is the rhetorical appearance of a logical argument and a legitimately logical argument and many people can't tell the difference. As you say, this is often the case with elected officials since they are quite often logic imparied. Many highly verbal people do not have reasoning skills and say ridiculously stupid things, but say these things so well that people are actually persuaded by the pseudo-arguments they make. Conversely, many highly intelligent people have difficulty communicating with logic impaired individuals.

MANY HIGHLY INTELLIGENT PEOPLE HAVE DIFFICULTY COMMUNICATING WITH LOGIC IMPAIRED INDIVIDUALS. That's basically like saying that it's not easy to explain complicated things to simple-minded people. So, it's not so much a lack of communication skills that we have here, but a lack of comprehension skills!

drdesert: That's basically corect. Pseudoscience flourishes only when there are people who are easily fooled by a little smoke and mirrors. People who are emotion-based and weak in logic are easily mislead and things are getting worse. Quite a few people are beginning to acknowledge the severity of the IQ crisis we are encountering in this country that has resulted from decades of dysgenic policies.

A short article in the LA Times announced that the Burroughs marching band will make an appearance at a Trona football game this week. That might be a first. It might even draw a few people to come out and watch the game. Hopefully local fans will be polite and appreciative. That shouldn't be asking too much....
