PLANT BULBS NOW: If you want some great spring flowers, then now is the time to plant bulbs. Gladiolas, tulips, crocus, irises, daffodils, you name it. Now it the time. Don't delay. Do it today!

panamint_patty: Great advice. I helped a friend plant a few bulbs last weekend and we're gonna help another friend this upcoming weekend. Last year we had good results and we're looking to extend that a little this next year.

UPDATE: Bulbs coming up at both friends' house! Crocuses actually blooming. Otherwise little plants are sprouting out of the ground and growing! Spring is off to a good start in the garden!

It's hard to say if any of these specific plants would survive the heat, but some of the general concepts discussed could be applicable to the desert.

I think a metal watering can would be better than these plastic ones, but the point is that watering cans definitely can be useful.

With the cost of water going up and the possibility of water restrictions, it's more important than ever to look into xeriscaping. Without landscaping a neighborhood looks like a slum, but without inexpensive and plentiful water, the list of plant choices is greatly reduce. So, greater resourcefulness is needed and it would be helpful if local vendors did a better job of helping out!
