Tarantulas, black widows, and daddy long legs are the only spiders I recognize and can name. BTW, the story that the daddy long legs produces the most potent venom, but has teeth too small to penetrate human skin is a myth. There is no reason to think that its venom is especially poisonous or even potentially deadly.
ergot: I heard that story about daddy long legs too. I always just assumed it was true because why else would anyone even say something like that unless it was based on the word of someone who knew what they were talking about? Now I'm not sure what to believe!
There have been a lot of movies that involve spiders and the fear of spiders. No names come to mind right away, but it does seem like I recall at least a half dozen movies where spiders played a big part in the plot. Fascination and fear really attract people's attention.
I found a list of the ten creepiest spider movies and it includes:Tarantula (1955), Tarantulas: The Deadly Cargo (1977), Dr. No, Home Alone, The Beyond (1981), Nothing to Lose, The Return of the King, Arachnophobia, The Night I Will Possess Your Corpse, and Something Wicked This Way Comes (1983).

mrgreen: I saw the movie, but don't recall the song. Was it just a promotional song or what? Seem like I should have remembered the song if it was in the movie.
