Internet Addiction

Internet Addiction
Here we go again. Internet addiction? People can become preoccupied with their email or with facebook or with text messages, but to call that Internet Addiciton is overly general. It's specific activities that are facilitated by the internet that people become obsessed with. People can be obsessed with a TV show, but it would be crazy to call that Television Addiction. Same thing goes with telephones, etc.

Kids Knock Out Parents with Drugged Milkshakes
Worst attempt at telling a joke ever!
Not sure that I'd actually count this as evidence for Internet addiction, but these kids were kind of desperate!

Internet Addiction?
It's more of an urban myth than a reality, but certain people (most likely technophobes) find the concept attractive.
:smack:
Investigators from the University of Wisconsin’s School of Medicine and from the University of Washington went digging through the medical literature, searching for all the reputable studies available on the subject of problematic Internet use. Then they subjected all of those studies to rigorous methodological scrutiny, and concluded that… they really couldn't conclude much of anything at all.

1.2 Million Years Of Porn Watched in 6 Years On Just Two Sites
Although I think calling something Internet Addiction is an over-generalization, it probably is the case that a small fraction of the population is addicted to porn. However, as with most things, most people know when they've had enough!
:yup:
By the way, I had heard of YouPorn.com before, but hamster.com? What kind of a name is hamster.com for a website?
Oops!!! It's xHamster.com! That at least makes a little more sense! Shame on you Young Turks for putting the wrong name on the screen!

Is Sex Addiction Real?
You can over-eat and you can have sex more often than is healthy. Blaming over-doing sex on porn is kind of like blaming over-eating on food (and especially really tasty and delicious food).

Good thread. I guess people become "addicted" to just about everything they do. Good or bad. We are creatures of habit.

Chimp Gets Addicted to Porn
I wonder if wrestling was an option for the chimp? I'm just thinking that maybe the chimp can't relate to other types of programming. Car chases, conversations, and other things that are captivating to humans might not hold a chimp's attention, but sex and wrestling would probably be activities that a chimp could relate to. So, it might not be the sex so much as a more general aspect of the activities available to be viewed.

Actually I read that we have 98% of the same DNA in common with mice, rats and hamsters. I just watched the video to find out of it was watching chimp porn or human porn. I wonder what the technical term for that is. Is it still called bestiality if you are the beast? Is there anybody that is a hard core watcher of the Man Show? 'Cause I'll bet they already covered it there.

Infographic: Are You Addicted to the Internet? :pac:
Signs of internet addiction include:
1) excessive online shopping
2) extensive social networking
3) compulsive online gambling
4) playing games online
5) compulsive watching of videos and porn online
6) excessive blogging
Unsurprisingly, 18 to 24 year olds account for the majority of Internet addicts (71 percent), while 25 to 44 years olds collectively fill in the second and third place spots. But then the scale begins to tip, as senior citizens mark 44 percent of addicted Internet users. The 45-54 and 55-64 age groups earned 40 percent and 39 percent, respectively.

New Book Highlights Wikipedia's Most Controversial Topics
Not too many people would be obsessed enough with anything to involve themselves in an EDIT WAR on WikiPedia. Perhaps they are suffering from some form of "internet Addiction"!
