Proof Sexting Is Good For Your Health
Finally a little bit of truth about sexting. It turns out that people who are confident in their sexual relationships are highly likely to sext. Something like 88% of couples in committed relationships exgage in sexting. Put in this perspective, the chances of an embarrassing picture being shared as a result of sexting must be infinitesimally low.

CactusHugger: I think it is true that the chances of an embarrassing picture shared through sexting getting loose on the internet is infinitesimally low as you say. It's probably a lot like the chances of being hit by lightning. But the media likes to exaggerate and blow things out of proportion. They make the extremely unlikely seem like an imminent threat. As a result perceptions are out of line with reality. It takes a lot of work to stay in touch with reality thanks to the way the media constantly distorts reality.

Nude Selfie Gets Teen Charged with Child Porn :wtf:
The comments say it all...
Next week on Law and Order: North Carolina - Fetus charged as an adult with creating child pornography after appearing in fetal ultrasound images. Legislators push emergency fetal personhood bill through in order to put fetuses on the sex offender registry.

This is more of America's stupid tough on crime approach to everything that has gone way too far.

Quick question, is the US supposed to be free because this sure as hell ain't freedom, this is the stuff of totalitarian dictatorships.

This is bullshit and it just proves that America is corrupt as fuck and they just wanna throw people in just just for money. Anyone with common fucking sense can see this is bullshit.

Sexting Teen Charged With Sexually Exploiting Himself
How it's possible to be both the victim and the perpetrator of a crime can only be the result of fallacious thinking. When laws that are meant to protect kids instead victimize them, it's time to change the laws. Every public official involved with this case should be immediately relieved of their duties and an investigation should be conducted into how it's possible that such stupid people wound up in possessions of authority. If there's ever been a case of abuse of authority, this is such a case.
There is nothing about this case that isn't tragically stupid. At worst, the officers should have considered the context, the consensual nature and the lack of age discrepancy and did what the charging detective recommended -- sending the teens home to their parents. If any discipline was needed for these actions, it's well within the remand of their respective legal guardians, not the state that has decided people of a certain age aren't allowed to own any part of themselves until the government says its OK.

North Carolina: What we have here is a stupidity epidemic. Authorities are showing no common sense on this issue. It's ridiculous to file even misdemeanor charges in a case like this one out of North Carolina. This is something that parents should deal with at their own discretion. To waste taxpayer money on this type of a trivial incident is ridiculous beyond ridiculous. Frankly it reminds me of the kind of bullshit you'd expect out of an authoritarian regime!

North Carolia: What I've noticed in general from comments left following various articles on this situation is that authorities are so fixated on the child porn issue that they are willing to treat teenagers involved in sexting as if they are hardcore pornographers. It doesn't really make sense, but for some reason they are willing to railroad teenagers out of some misguided illusion that they must be arbitrarily unfair to prevail over some overly-hyped greater evil. It's pathetic, but that is usually the case with deluded fools.

Sexting Teens Sentenced To A Year Without Cellphones And All The Warrantless Searches They Can Be Subjected To :smack:
The stupidity in this case just keeps getting stupider and stupider. The main lesson learned by the teens in this case is that the world is populated by incredibly stupid people and that the stupidest of them all wind up making laws and enforcing those laws.
There was the first (and most familiar) layer of stupidity: the charging of both with distributing explicit material to minors (both teens were 16 at the time of the sexting). Then there was the unexpected stupidity: the charging of both for sexually exploiting themselves. This gained an additional layer of stupidity when the law treated the teens as both minors (being exploited) and adults (doing the exploiting) when processing them.

Manhattan Beach School Wants To Crack Down On Students Sexting
This reminds me way too much of the anti-marijuana propaganda we heard during the early 1960s. Why can't authorities just admit (or maybe realize) that sexting is no big deal and move on? The statistics are clear: 99.9% of the time a nude pic is not recirculated. It's very rare for one of these pics to wind up causing a problem and the only reason there's a problem is due to the overreaction of legal authorities. Remove the idiots in charge from the equation and the problem is solved!

Re: National Sexting Day

Maybe what we need is a national sexting day where everyone with a cell phone takes a perverted picture of themselves and sends it to a random stranger. There'd be too many pictures for the knuckleheads to deal with and hopefully they'd realize that they're just wasting taxpayer money when they waste time on cases involving sexting of any kind.

Can Sexting Improve Your Relationship?
According to the guy in this video, approximately 17% of sexting pics get shared at all and probably most of those are shared with the knowledge of the sender. A lot of the time it's like "Can I share it with my friends?" and the sender says, "Yeah, just this person and that person" and that's the end of it. The only problem is that he doesn't specify how widely they get shared. My guess is that only a very tiny percent get widely shared and an even smaller percent go what might be called viral.
