sandman: Absolutely! So many diseases that were untreatable in the past have become treatable thanks to medical advances, but there are still so many diseases that still can't be treated. The lucky ones are those that don't get sick at all and the semi-lucky ones just get something that can be cured or treated without extreme hardship.

Medical advancements have both good and bad ramifications. Mother Earth use to be able to clean up the gene pool and keep over population in check with big flushes occasionally. Now not so much, we altered nature again.

True, but I don't think anyone seriously wants to go back to the "good ole days" when people routinely died from things which are easily treatable now. As for our gene pool, scientists will soon be able to edit out the bad stuff and so that problem will most probably be solved in the not too terribly distant future. However, the future is always full of surprises -- some good, some bad -- and so who knows how things will turn out!
