Harvard Geneticist Says Cloning Neanderthals Possible
Looking for an "adventurous" woman to give birth to this cloned being. I thought there were laws against cloning humans and wouldn't a Neanderthal actually be a human? Supposedly all people of European descent have genes inherited from Neanderthal ancestors. If Neanderthals interbred with Homo sapiens, then technically we are the same species since one of the defining characteristics of a species is whether or not interbreding produces furtile offspring.

14 Species That Cloning Could Resurrect
It might be a good idea to clone another extinct animal first. Neanderthals are too close to humans! My vote is clone the dodo ASAP!

Hedgehog Population Disappearing
The way things are going hedgehogs will be extinct pretty soon and it will be necessary for scientists to clone them too!

Man's DNA Test Rocks Human Genetic Theories
It's well-known that there is a huge amount of genetic variation among people of African descent. Although this opens up the possibility for some extremely politically incorrect discussions, it's interesting stuff any way you look at it.

You're darn right that this news could lead to some pretty dicey discussions about differences between different racial groups regarding intellectual abilities and that sort of thing. My guess is that a lot of this info was already known to the scientific community, but that it was suppressed in order to avoid debates which would seem racist in nature. It is what it is, but there are those who might want make more of it than it actually should be.

Human Evolution Enters an Exciting New Phase :prof:
Not only does this article fit nicely into this thread, but it could also go nicely into the thread about personalized medicine. Genetics helps us to understand where we came from and how to take care of our imperfect physical bodies. That's not to say that our bodies are not amazingly efficient biological machines, but they do tend to break down and degenerate as we get older or wind up with some kind of medical condition for any number of possible reasons.
The medical implications of this realization are profound. The previously unappreciated significance of rare variation could explain much of why scientists have struggled to identify more than a small fraction of the genetic components of common, complex disease, limiting the predictive value of genomics.

Fascinating Specimen Sparks Debate on Human Origins
The origin of modern humans is probably a lot more complicated than originally believed. It looks like several sub-species developed and that modern humans are the result of interbreeding between these sub-species. At least that's the implication I get out of this video.

New Theory on Why Humans Walk on Two Legs
Not so much about cloning and it goes further back than Neanderthals, but close enough and quite interesting!

Bringing back a mammoth for cloning
Okay, CactusPete, your video wasn't so much about cloning and this video isn't so much about Neanderthals, but both of our videos dealt with prehistoric creatures and so I'd say that's close enough for this thread!
A recent discovery of a preserved mammoth in Siberia has scientists wanting to clone the animal and "de-extinct" it.
