Art is in the eye of the beholder. The problem is that that makes art a matter of opinion and there are as many opinions out there as there are people. If all people are of value, then all of their opinons should be valued and if all porn is considered to be art by some people, then all porn is of value and there should be no restrictions against the viewing of said art pieces. Just say no to censorship.

Study: Revenge Porn Impacts 10.4 Million Americans
Just when you thought that stupid couldn't get any stupider, we have this incredibly stupid report about an even stupider "scientific" study. Without digging any deeper, it's obvious that either the reporter is misrepresenting the study or that the study was anything but scientific. The histrionics give it away, but the basic arithmetic settles the case with certainty. In order for the claim that 1 in 25 Americans have been victims of "revenge porn" to be true, it would have to be the case that at least 1 in 25 Americans would have had to have allowed naked pictures of themselves to be posted online. Do you really believe that anywhere near 1 in 25 people have allowed themselves to be photographed in the raw? Seriously?

mrgreen: One in twenty-five does seem pretty high. I could believe that 1 in 50 people have naked pics taken of themselves and that maybe 1 out of 10 of them wind up having some kind of revenge porn threat made as a result, but that would be something that only 1 out of 500 people experience. To claim that 1 out of 25 people have that problem seems like a MASSIVE EXAGGERATION. If people are going to exaggerate, they should keep it reasonable. Also people who use the pretext of a scientific study to push an agenda should be exposed as frauds. People like that should not only face monetary penalties, but prison time should also be possible.

CactusHugger: Are you suggesting that the anti-porn people are exaggerating? For some reason I've come to expect that kind of thing from advocates when it comes to social issues. They'll pretend to do a scientific study and use that as a tactic to push their agenda. Advocates pretending to be scientists have tarnished the image of real scientists so that now the public has no idea who to trust. Real science is beyond their understanding and so they can't tell the difference between legitimate studies and fake studies. It's not a good state of affairs and demonstrates one of the weakness of democracy since not everyone can be an expert in everything.

shadylady: Great post! Ergot mentioned this post in the Detecting Lies thread and he made some excellent points to go along with what you said here.

Freedom of speech does not scare people who aren't stupid. One of the reasons that scientific journals exist is to weed out junk science. The problem is that the junk scientists squawk like the stupid bird brains they are when their bogus research is rejected. They don't understand the difference between real science and junk science and so they firmly believe that they are being treated unfairly. Although sometimes it does happen that people are actually treated in an unfair manner, stupid people are extremely likely to decide that they've been treated unfairly because they lack the smarts to understand the situation fully.

Authorities warn of child porn phone virus
The kid in this news clip must have been pretty stupid not to immediately realize that this was a scam. He probably also did something pretty stupid in order for his phone to get infected with the virus. That's assuming that it was actually a virus since there's no evidence that he had done anything to attempt to disable the warming message through normal means.

CactusHugger: This is a pretty common scam and very easy for a hacker of modest skill to pull off. He's lucky that the hackers didn't load more illegal images. Also he's lucky that they called him and not local law enforcement. Lots of people are stuck in jail due to scams like this one. It's a lot like swatting, which is the subject of another thread on this message board.

Reddit, Twitter and Pornhub Block Fake Celebrity Porn
This doesn't seem like something that should be banned. It seems like it should be covered by fair use provisions of copyright law. The way I see it, it's just parody porn.
