The government of the United States has always ignored the laws of it's native peoples in favor of immigrants. Only difference is the vast majority of native Americans are no longer Indians!

Illegal immigration is a problem and unless we enforce existing laws the problem will only get worse. There's no such thing as a wall that cannot be penetrated, but we can improve border security. Also I'd like to see a national effort to aggressively deport at least four million illegals. That would turn the tide and accomplish real reform that we could all be proud of.

sandman: I think you're right about border security. Building a physically imposing wall might not be the best strategy for reducing illegal immigration, but some physical improvement will certainly help. More important are tactics and technology which will greatly reduce gaps and blind spots in the current system.

Border wall prototypes displayed in California
Looks like Trump is moving forward with the border wall. Now to get Mexico to pay for the darn thing!

Actually if our government would work together we could get Mexico to pay for the wall. We have the power and leverage to do just about anything that we as a united nation want to do, but we aren't united on many things and we've sold ourselves short as a result.

8 prototypes for Trump's border wall
Walls can't stop tunnels and with a price tag in the BILLIONS this might not be the most effective way to spend money, but if we can get Mexico to pay for it, then what the heck?

It may be impractical to dig down more than ten or twenty feet below the surface, but it might be possible to drill holes for poles that deep and to place sensors into the poles. This would only be necessary in areas where it would be feasible for tunnels to be built. Rugged terrain far from populated areas, probably would not need anything special to deter tunnel diggers. In any case, it's all worth it, especially if we get Mexico to pay for it!

California sheriffs take stand against sanctuary designation
It sounds like this law should be challenged through the court system. I can't imagine that the US Supreme Court would allow it to stand.
