Media changes stance on E.Ukraine, sees it functioning like a state
It would be amazing if the media here in the USA started telling the true story rather than the one pushed by propagandists who hate Russia!

Re: Apocalypse Ukraine

Postby cactuspete » Wed Feb 25, 2015 7:37 am

Not surprisingly CNN misquoted Putin and tried to frame a reasonable comment as a threat. What Putin said was that he felt that an apocalypse was unlikely, but CNN decided that it would take this reasonable comment out of context and make it more sensational by framing it as some kind of threat. The important thing is that although the ceasefire has been less than 100 percent successful, it does seem to be taking hold. While Putin hopes to solve the problem in Ukraine diplomatically, the USA seems hellbent on escalating military conflict.

Noam Chomsky: After Dangerous Proxy War, Keeping Ukraine Neutral Offers Path to Peace with Russia :smokin:
Listen to what Chomsky has to say about "diaperology" and how what was happening in the 1950s is being repeated now.

mrgreen: It's nice to see a sober assessment of the situation in Ukraine and Chomsky provided what I'd call an extremely unbiased analysis of what's going on over there. It's too bad that Psychology Today is more of a propaganda rag than a popular science magazine, but it's always been more likely to cover popular fads and pseudo-science than real science anyways and so I guess there's no real surprise there.

Some people like to say that it's impossible to present or discuss news events without some kind of bias, but I think that's exactly what Chomsky did in the clip posted by mrgreen. He cut it right down the middle and cut straight to the truth without taking sides or saying who's right or who's wrong. From the time Chomsky first spoke right up to the end, that news clip was solid gold!

mrgreen: I gave up on watching Democracy Now long ago since they tend to have an obvious progressive liberal agenda and I just plain grew tired of the constant liberal intellectual arrogance. But I forgot that occasionally they have someone like Chomsky on who doesn't have a liberal stick stuck up his ass. He just provides matter of fact analysis and is guided by objective truth and not an agenda other than discerning the truth. Only when we truly understand the truth of the matter are we able to deal effectively with reality.

Wargaming Russia's Military Options in Ukraine
This is interesting, but most likely Russia will do nothing unless the USA increases its involvement in Ukraine.

Russia has shown no tendency towards unprovoked aggression and so it's safe to say that they will only act militarily if they are forced to do so. Everything they've done so far has been in response to events orchestrated by the USA. If the USA stays out of Russia's business there will be stability in the region, but as long as the USA continues to stir things up, people will die.

Interventionism in the Ukraine kills :prof:
He's not always right, but this is one of those times when Ron Paul hits the bull's-eye!
What if John McCain had stayed home and worried about his constituents in Arizona instead of non-constituents 6,000 miles away? What if the other U.S. and European politicians had done the same? What if Victoria Nuland and U.S. Ambassador Geoffrey Pyatt had focused on actual di-plomacy instead of regime change? If they had done so, there is a good chance many if not all of those who have been killed in the violence would still be alive today. Interventionism kills.

desertrat: Ron Paul knows his stuff. Basically all we accomplished by backing the overthrow of the duly elected government in Ukraine was to give Russia an excuse to take Crimea. The people in Crimea are better off for it and the people in western Ukraine ought to just leave the people in eastern Ukraine alone, but no the west is just a little too eager to have their asses handed to them.
