Girl saved from mountain lion attack
They tracked down and killed the mountain lion pretty quickly. I wonder if they used a helicopter or what?

Culling wild animals is still controversial
Thinning the herd is the best way to manage wildlife populations. Allowing hunters to do the job using some kind of lottery system and fee structure gets the job done at the lowest possible public expense. People who grow up in the city sometimes are out of touch with the realities of the natural world and they have a hard time accepting what they see as cruel. My advice to them is to grow up.

Borax: It's a minority of unreasonable extremist PETA types that object to culling animal populations. Most people realize that such practices are necessary for the good of the populations. There may be a few farcical studies paid for by groups like PETA that suggest otherwise, but valid studies support the practice of culling the herd.

Culling Wild Animals: This is a good example of how thinking too emotionally about a problem gets in the way of dealing with a situation in an effective manner. Keeping a population of wild animals under control is essential to their well-being and the most economical way to do this is through some form of culling or thinning. I'm in favor of allowing hunters to have at it, but the bottom line is that wild populations must not be allowed to outgrow the land available for them.

Buck With Arrow Lodged In Neck Spotted Again; Officials Unable To Capture Wounded Animal
It's very possible that a hunter simply missed while legally hunting during hunting season, but it seems more likely that some lowlife scum took an illegal shot causing unnecessary pain and suffering.
